Sterling House After School in Stratford

The purpose of the Sterling House Community Center After School program is to serve students and families of Stratford by providing a quality educational, recreational, and social program. Our team is committed to the development of the whole child through meaningful experiences with their peers.

We want to empower our students to succeed beyond the classroom.

Mission

Philosophy

Our Afterschool Programs provide a safe, secure, and supportive environment that gives families peace of mind when they cannot be there themselves.

Goals

  • Provide a healthy, safe, and enriching environment that supports healthy behavior and physical well-being.

  • Foster consistent and positive relationships with adults, peers, and community members.

  • Complement and integrate the child’s educational experience with a well-rounded schedule of activities that fosters an appreciation for diversity.

  • Help students cultivate essential life skills that subsequently help to improve academic performance.

  • Support the needs of working families by remaining open and serving as much as possible.

After school structure

Free Time

Students get time to relax and play with friends! Students play on the playground, on our Pavilion, Gazebo, backfield, or in the auditorium when we are inside.

Meeting & Snack Time

During the afternoon meeting time, students eat snacks, while each small group will get a chance to reflect on their day, discuss norms and expectations, as well as answer a question of the day.

This is when the counselor will prepare CHOICES for the students in one of the rooms of our historic House. Students may be able to draw, color, and play with Legos or manipulatives.
