Curriculum

Sterling House Preschool is proud to use The Creative Curriculum® for Preschool. This is a comprehensive, research-based curriculum that features hands-on, project-based investigations as a pathway to learning. It includes the most up-to-date early childhood development research and others embedded support and guidance to effectively bring a content-rich, developmentally appropriate curriculum to life.

The curriculum includes 9 units of study. Foundational skills are embedded into each unit. For example, social-emotional, physical, language and literacy, mathematics, science and technology, social studies, and the arts.

The units of study include Building a Classroom Community, Balls, Buildings, Clothes, Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, Trees, Water, Wheels, and Exercise.

  • Our preschool program follows a school year schedule. School begins after Labor Day and ends in June.

We follow the Stratford Public Schools Calendar for all days off and vacations.

  • We provide two nutritionally balanced snacks, one in the morning and one in the afternoon right after rest time. Our nutritious snack is composed of one fruit (fresh or cup), dairy (yogurt or cheese), grain (i.e. cereal-Cheerios and Kix, Nutri Grain bars, bagels, etc.), etc. We allow the children to have one cup of juice with a morning snack and water with an afternoon snack.

Families are responsible for providing students with a nutritious breakfast each day.

  • Per Connecticut State Licensing, our teacher-to-student ratio is 1:10.

  • Beginning with the 2024-2025 school year (July 1, 2024), Connecticut General Statute requires children to turn five years old on or before September 1st, in order to be automatically eligible for kindergarten. Therefore, Sterling House Preschool has adjusted our timeline for entry to ensure the most appropriate early childhood educational experience. Eligibility for Sterling House Preschool: child must be 3 years of age on or before September 1st of the year of entry.

“Sterling House Preschool is a safe, encouraging space for kids to be kids while learning, exploring, growing and coming into a better understanding of themselves every day.”

“We have loved our experience with Sterling House Preschool. The teachers provided creative, hands-on learning activities that engaged our child and sparked his interest in art, science, math and reading. But above all, the teachers truly care for and love our child. He feels he is an important, listened to, and loved part of his school community. We are grateful that this was his preschool experience.”
